Dynamo M vs Avtomobilist. Will the blue and white return to first place?
One of the leaders of the Western Conference - Moscow Dynamo, will host the Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist at home on December 23. The meeting will take place on the ice of the capital's "VTB Arena".
Capital Dynamo went for a break in the championship as the leader of the Western Conference, but already the first game day after a pause sent the blue and white two lines down. This is due to the extraordinary density at the top of the standings in the West, as a result of which the quartet of leaders fit into the gap of two points. Now the blue and white are in third place, two points behind SKA from St. Petersburg, and one from the capital's army men.
In general, the current season can still be considered an asset for Dynamo hockey players. The short-term downturn in October was to some extent caused by confusion in the team's personnel policy, when rumors of a possible sale of leaders appeared in the press. Now everything has calmed down and experienced Shipacheev, Voinov, along with the rapidly progressing Rashevsky, are simply breaking the League. Shipachev has traditionally staked out the place of the best scorer of the championship, with 57 points scored (21 + 36) ahead of the closest pursuer by 12 points. Somewhat embarrassing is the large number of injured players. At the moment, the Dynamo coaching staff cannot count on five hockey players, four forwards (Efremov, Fisenko, Bryzgalov, Nazarevich) and defender Pribylsky at once.
Avtomobilist
This is not the first time the Ural club has entered the season as one of the favorites of the championship, but in reality it all comes down to the struggle to get into the top eight. The current championship was no exception. A rather aggressive summer selection, during which Avtomobilist's roster was joined by such iconic KHL hockey players as Cormier, Prince, Da Costa, Spooner, spoke eloquently about the team's high ambitions. In fact, by the end of November, the Urals were forced to part with the head coach, Canadian specialist Bill Peters, who had lost the threads of club management. He was replaced by Nikolai Zavarukhin, known for his independent work in Novosibirsk Siberia.
Under the leadership of Zavarukhin, Avtomobilist played five matches, winning three times (Spartak 3-1, Admiral 2-1 and away Lokomotiv 2-0) and losing twice (at home to St. Petersburg SKA 0-1 and away to the capital's Spartak 2-5). Such results did not particularly affect the standings of the team, Avtomobilist continues to balance on the brink of the Cup eight. Now the Urals have 39 points, which corresponds to seventh place and breath in the back from Barys, Neftekhimik and Amur, literally a couple of points behind.
