Dynamo Minsk vs Dynamo Moscow. Who will be stronger in a confrontation between teammates?
The next game week of the KHL regular season will end in Minsk. It is there, on November 12, on the ice of the local Minsk Arena, that two Dynamo teams – Minsk and Moscow – will meet.
The main acquisition of the Minsk club over the past summer off-season was the invitation to the post of head coach of Dmitry Kvartalnov. After a year-long break, the titled Russian coach returned to big-time hockey, choosing an ambitious project from Minsk. The Minsk team’s September can hardly be called successful; the team was just getting used to the demands of the new coach, so certain game problems can be attributed to both the period of adaptation of both the coach to the players and the players to the new coach.
Already in October, the results of Minsk residents began to improve. Four victories in a row in the first ten days of October, then three more in the middle of the month - Dynamo gradually began to climb up the standings, simultaneously correcting the mistakes of September. During the current home series, Dynamo lost to Omsk Avangard, after a draw in regulation time, losing in a shootout. In the next match there was a long-awaited victory; HC Sochi was beaten with a minimal score of 2-1. This victory allowed the Minsk team to gain a foothold in the top eight of the Western Conference; Dynamo now has 30 points and is currently in seventh place.
Dynamo Moscow
The blue and white had a great start to the two months of the championship, managing to climb to the top of the standings not only in the Western Conference, but also at the top of the summary table. This became possible after a nine-match winning streak, during which the capital club beat Lokomotiv, Avangard, Lada, that is, teams that are among the leaders of the current championship. The end of the winning streak, which happened on Wednesday, October 8, looks all the more unexpected.
The home match against Kunlun, one of the main outsiders of the League, did not foretell any difficulties. And here the blue and white team was played against by a banal underestimation of the opponent, which turned into an offensive defeat. The blue and whites were unable to convert their huge advantage during the match into victory, ending regular time with a 2-2 draw. The denouement came in overtime; the Chinese club converted Nikita Gusev's optional removal into a winning goal. Not the most logical defeat cost the blue and white first place in the West, throwing the team into second place. Dynamo has 42 points, the same number as leading Spartak, but the red-whites are higher in additional indicators.
